Myself and the Poiema Gals are very passionate about women leading and bringing awareness to how western civilization represents women in the media. I can't wait for the show that will come from this!
Hello and happy winter! I hope you are getting some use out of your toboggans and fireplaces! I will admit that winter is probably one of my favourite seasons, not only because I am a true Edmontonian at heart and will love whatever this city throws at me, but also because it's usually when myself and the Poiema Gals are creating new work together! This year is a little different, however, because each of us are working on separate projects for this summer, but we have recently watched something that stirred us up and we feel a need to create something due to the film, "Miss Representation". "Miss Representation" is an award-winning documentary film that exposes how mainstream media contributes to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence in America. Now if you are a man, please don't think this is just for ladies! Please watch the trailer and visit www.missrepresentation.com if you want to know more. It's very eye-opening and humbling. Myself and the Poiema Gals are very passionate about women leading and bringing awareness to how western civilization represents women in the media. I can't wait for the show that will come from this!

150 posters, 1500 handbills, 6 shows and over 600 audience members later, the Edmonton Fringe has come and gone. We had an amazing time sharing this very special show with all of you and a huge personal thank you from us to everyone who came out. We even sold out one of the shows! Now it's off to Cranbrook, B.C. for our one-night only show in the Key City Theatre. We are looking forward to being spoiled by Candice's parents with their big Italian food and their big Italian hearts. Last night we held our 2nd Annual Poiema Fundraiser to raise funds for our upcoming Fringe show, "Middleton: a folk musical". A whopping 71 guests came out for yummy Chinese food courtesy of The Golden Capital Restaurant, magnificent music from Marilla (who just happens to be writing the music for our show... ahem) and even a little song from the Poiema Gals themselves. David Dempsey hosted the night and plenty of great friends volunteered to greet, bartend, serve and sell. A shout out to comedian Scott Belford for adding tons of laughter to the night. Thank you to our sponsors for all your donated items to our silent auction and raffles. And a giant thank you to all our guests! We couldn't do what we love to do without each and every one of you. Fringe is only 2 months away and we're hard at work on our third show as a company. "Middleton: a folk musical" is based on a true story and we definitely had fun turning it into a music-filled stage production. We are so excited to have Louise Large on board as director and dramaturge. You might recognize her as a writer, producer (with her theatre company Defiance Theatre), or actor as she plays many creative roles throughout the city. Danielle Knibbe is a Grant MacEwan Graduate of the Music Program and along with her band, Marilla, she is writing brilliant music giving the East Coast traditional sound a modern twist. We're also so happy to invite Trent Wilkie, Brennan Campbell, and Corben Kushneryk to the show. Our final cast mate to be revealed soon... On Friday, March 9th, Poiema Productions will be helping out to make little girls' dreams come true as they get to party with the real princesses! The Rainbow Society of Alberta is holding a Daddy's Little Sweetheart Ball for girls and the special man in their life. The night will be full of food, dinner, dancing, and special time with the Princesses. Call 780 469 3306 for tickets. |
